BATAAN WAR MEMORIAL
Veterans Park Road/US Hwy. 127 N

A World War II M-4 tank commemorates The Harrodsburg Tankers, then known as the 38th Tank Company, a Kentucky National Guard unit called to active duty prior to WWII. In October of 1941, sixty-six men from Mercer County left San Francisco under sealed orders with the 192nd G.H.Q. Tank Battalion and arrived in Manila, Philippine Islands in November. They fought to defend Bataan and Corregidor during a critical battle of World War II. These brave men endured the battle, “The Bataan Death March”, and more than three years as prisoners of war before returning to Kentucky. Twenty-nine lost their lives.
